There are many reasons people seek therapy. Most likely, you're here because you're feeling out of balance or distressed in some aspect of your life. You may be looking for better ways to cope with symptoms of depression or anxiety, to change patterns that lead to unhealthy behaviors or relationships, or you may be seeking healing from a difficult or traumatic experience. Therapy can also help you to gain insight about yourself in order to live a more purposeful life, increase your sense of confidence and self-compassion, or help you explore a new life path with courage and intention. My hope is to provide support, tools, and encouragement to help you find greater balance, authenticity, strength and overall well-being.
Therapy can be short-term or long-term, depending on your needs and preferences. It is also common to do "pieces" of work at a time, taking therapeutic breaks in between to integrate your new awareness and skills. We can work together to determine which style best meets your needs.
I work with adults in individual therapy to address a variety of concerns, including:
I integrate a variety of approaches in my practice, drawing deeply from Acceptance & Commitment Therapy, Mindfulness, and insight-oriented psychotherapies. Others include Narrative Therapy, Attachment Theory, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Family Systems, Existential Psychotherapy, Feminist Theory and Expressive Arts Therapy.
I also utilize EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) - a unique & effective form of psychotherapy (using bilateral stimulation) that can help to reduce the uncomfortable effects of trauma and other difficult experiences, in order to restore a greater sense of balance and wholeness.
