About
Angela Keeney, LCSW
I'm a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW), registered in the state of Oregon. I earned my Master's degree from Portland State University and completed my undergraduate work in psychology at Southern Oregon University. I have 15 years of experience in the mental health field, including five years working in a residential treatment home for adolescent girls, and five years as a Child & Family Therapist in community mental health, prior to opening my private practice. |
My work as a therapist is informed by both professional and personal experience, as well as a life-long curiosity about, and respect for, all that makes us human. I'm interested in how the stories we tell ourselves shape the way we experience the world, and in our ability to re-write the stories that no longer serve us or have kept us limited. I believe there is power in the sharing of our stories -- in understanding and reclaiming them -- that allows us to grow and to create a life that is meaningful, fulfilling, and an expression of our best selves. I want to support you in finding your best story and in living your best life.
As a social worker, I am committed to ongoing learning about the relationship between mental health and social justice. In particular, I strive to continually deepen my understanding of how the intersections of race, class, gender identity, sexual orientation and ability impact each person's life experiences and their stories of the world. I welcome dialogue about privilege, oppression and marginalization, as well as discussion about how any differing identities we have between us may influence our work together.
My style of therapy is warm, collaborative and open to wherever the work may lead us, though I'll also help us to stay focused on your goals. I often use humor and creativity in my work. I'll check in along the way to make sure we're heading in a direction that is helpful and at a pace that feels right for you. The therapeutic relationship is one of the most important aspects of effective therapy, so it's important that this feels like a good fit.
I am humbled by how much I learn through my professional work -- and in my own experiences with motherhood, partnership, travel, loss and self-growth -- about our incredible capacity to change, heal, and stretch ourselves further than we ever thought possible. I truly love what I do and feel inspired by the courage and vulnerability I witness in the therapy process. I deeply respect your choice to grow, to gain insight, to learn new skills, to heal, to connect. I am honored to walk with you.
